Saudi Royal Family: Mother from MD, A reviewer, September, 2002 Wow! Relevant book to our times. I loved the pictures, I loved the writing. Easy to understand and Reed brought up questions in an objective way allowing kids to come to their own conclusions about the Saudi Royal Family. Very in tune to our times! History in the making and children should know what is going on. This book will help them better understand not only the Sauds, but Islam too. John Green, From Booklist Gr. 5-8. The Saudi Royal Family follows the rise of the Saud family and its radical Wahabist interpretation of Islam in the early-twentieth century and then introduces the various kings who have followed. The book is admirably balanced, even as it explores the paradoxes inherent within the ostentatious and indulgent royal family's puritanical religious beliefs. Both books are illustrated with color and sepia-tone photographs. Extensive chronologies and bibliographies further the text. Ratings from Amazon.com - The Saudi Royal Family was well presented for younger children. Reed wrote this in a way that enables young kids to understand not only the Saudi Royal Family but the religion of Islam. She remains objective throughout but as an American questions whether or not the Sauds are our friends. She raises this question in a way that would allow kids to think it through and come to their own conclusion. The photos are wonderful and I liked the color, layout and presentation of the book. Love Canal: Reader from Maryland, a history buff, September,2002 Interesting bit of America's history. Love Canal has faded away in the memories of many Americans, yet the families who lived there still suffer today. What an eye-opening book on chemical waste and how it can affect us. You just never know how close you may live to a toxic area. Well written for children and easy to understand. Kids need to know this stuff! |
